RCMP & Quesnel Victim Services
The RCMP is available 24 hours per day, seven days per week to attend to crimes in progress or crimes that have occurred. The RCMP exists to ensure the safety of all individuals, to investigate criminal offences and to bring those responsible for criminal acts before the court.
What You Should Know About Accessing RCMP Service
In the event of a domestic assault, the RCMP makes the safety of the victim a priority. Where sufficient evidence exists, RCMP will arrest the offender and forward evidence to Crown Counsel so that the offender may be prosecuted.
The RCMP will obtain victim and witness statements regarding the assault. These statements will be audio and/or video recorded. In cases where there is visible injury, RCMP will obtain photographs outlining these injuries.
RCMP will work with victims, the Bail Supervisor and the court to ensure that court-ordered conditions are in place to protect the victim’s safety. In cases of domestic violence or sexual assaults, these conditions will prevent the offender from having ANY contact with the victim. It will also prohibit the offender from possessing firearms and weapons. Finally, it will prohibit the offender from coming to the victim’s residence, place of employment, school, etc. RCMP will enforce and closely monitor the court- ordered conditions of those accused of domestic or sexual assault. RCMP and Community Based Victim Services will provide follow up support with the victim and will assist with ongoing safety planning.

Criminal Justice System Support: Victims are provided with information about their legal rights under the Victim of Crime act. They will also learn how the criminal justice system works in BC. Victims will be given information about the steps involved in the investigation and prosecution of the crime/criminal. They will also receive information on how to obtain a restraining order, court injunction or peace bond. Victims may request an advocate to accompany them to court or to be present with them during police interviews.
Personal Support: RCMP Victim Services workers are available to provide emotional and practical support to victims, including
All of these support services are free of charge. It is the victim's right to choose not to take advantage of one or all of the support services offered. Victims will always be asked for permission before any services are performed on their behalf.
Victim Services support staff can also help victims apply for compensation from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board.
